toot your own horn

my things and stuff have slowed down slightly, especially since i started sailing and gone for a climb. i don't mind really, i have completed a lot of new pieces and am still working on my prints. i started making little business card type things for my show, so i have these old printing letter press blocks that i am using. i made up the name squiearl which i've heard people call me a bunch of time, thought it would be fun to use as a card. i'm thinking hand made business cards are much more preferred then a big stack of cards from a digital print shop. anyhow, things for me are becoming more exciting as the show date approaches. I will have to post something about the show, the wheres whens and hows of it.

see you

could not resist

i could not resist this one, mr buster at his best. i have a friend in the area that has built a climbing wall in his house so during my days off creating art i go for a visit and a climb. he is a great man to visit, he has lots of climbing experience and is an incredible person to just be around in general. so a few climbing tips and a good rant or so is always good for the soul. yes that is me climbing, and i am not trying to show off i just like the photo. hehe

what the heck are these

during my many adventures of climbing fences of old industrial areas, walking along railway tracks or visiting places like depot harbour in parry sound i've been able to find many cool artifacts. i also combed the beaches near halifax in nova scotia to find drift woods, rope and much more. so what i've done is gone crazy and introduced some of the things and stuff that i found and made them into something. not sure what to call them or even if you would say they are art, but either way using pigmented wax, spray paint, thread and the found objects was heaps of fun. i might continue this little venture of sculpture and combining my finds into hanging art, i just wish people would want them in there own homes, studios etc etc.

going away

there is nothing like going away for a little while. i might pack up my paint, brushes and drop sheets and take a little holiday. maybe it is time to do more forest or start reading. i don't know really what i am thinking, maybe i just need a few days break of make things. i have not heard from many people, are you out there, do you actually check this art blog once in a while???

i do have some work that i have not yet documented, i will make sure to take a few photos to post for you. the artist in me might have had a crazy release the other night. i guess after drinking some wine and talking to mr buster anyone would start creating some strange things and stuff.

ok there friends in blog land, make sure to eat some ice cream today.

animals/pink floyd, have a listen

if you have never listened to the album animals by pink floyd then you must do that immediately. if you do not own a copy go out and purchase it now, turn up the volume, chill out and relax. on that thought, why the heck do we allow animals into our homes. my dog mr buster is such a pain in the ass, he stares at me when i eat, he jumps on me while i sleep, he wants to go for walks all the time and his breath is bad most of the time. who had the stupid idea of pets and letting these animals roam around our homes. anyhow, mr buster does offer good company and he helps with my art work (usually finding his fur in my paintings or my encaustic). what an ass*&^*.

just kidding about that by the way. mr buster rocks! along with my new suitcase

fasten for seat belts

fasten your seat belts ladies and gents, we are going for a ride. if you know what i mean... hope you had a chance to pack your bags because it is time to take off, my plane arrived a couple days ago. if you are daring enough to join me for my first flight contact me at any time. you might have to purchase one of my prints first, or a painting or two. either way a plane ride from the water will be a swell time.

see you around. have a safe flight and please enjoy the onboard refreshments.

aviation maps

here is a sneak peak at the suitcases i've started, there are even a few metal trays in the works. the metal trays are pretty interesting actually, they were left behind in the someones trash at the side of the road so i thought i would give them a try. i have a couples pieces where i used metal trays a few years ago and i was lucky to have found a more of the metal. as for the suitcase i am wondering what to call them, any ideas from anyone reading this??? to me they are sort of like a travelling sculpture and for sure cause a second look at the airport or bus station.

hand made sculptures

welcome to my little breakthrough, hand made sculptures using wood pieces i found at a clear cut up north (algonquin park area) and a few hands that I bought from ray who has a booth at the aberfoyle antique market, which is just west of toronto. this was probably the most fun i have had in ages making these hand made sculptures, the process took a lot of time but in the end i am really happy with what i have. they make me laugh and scream every time i see them. they are sort of zombie like which brings me to a loud scream when i see them. i am slightly going nuts i guess.

i believe i will be taking on a few more sculptures, i just need to go search for some more things and stuff to use. alright see you soon.

shake hands

finally i can start the little sculptures. hands, little white rabbits, found gun shot shells, found clearcut pieces, spray paint, wax acrylic, pencil... huh the list goes on for what i work with these days. i will take a little break from posting so often, i need to concentrate on creating these pieces instead of going on-line. this does not i will not post, probably twice a week the least. ok, keep you posted and i look forward to show you what i come up with.

mr buster

here is mr buster, he is a dog of many languages. he thinks of me as his human, he takes me for walks, he has me feed him, water his bowl and give him treats, like pasta. he is a great little friend, never complains and always wakes me up in the middle of the night. i would not know what i would do without him and his great advise and love.

if you have a friend like mr buster make sure to give he or she a special treat today, for example key lime pie...

sail away

i found a few boats that would be perfect to go for a sail, sail away to island far away, or to the nearest ice cream shop. these little boats are the latest inspiration for me, i'm wondering what i could do with them. besides setting sail i will most likely start sketching and see where that takes me.
